Digilocker is the highlight of digital India campaign launched by the government of India as the first step in the transformation to paperless government. As a part of digital India, it serves as digital empowerment for each citizen and it has the storage capacity to serve over a billion digital citizens. It acts as a platform for issuance and verification of documents in a digital way eliminating the use of physical documents providing citizens a shareable private space on a public cloud and making all the certificates and documents issued by the government agencies such as birth, death, marriage, educational certificates, land ownership, tax and financial records, driver’s license, vehicle registration etc.
The most exciting of this Digilocker is it allows the citizens to easily access their documents at anytime and anywhere via their mobile or computer in a securely.
While considering its benefits the best thing is that it ensures the genuine documents and eliminates the forgery. It minimizes the use of physical documents by e-signing and presented electronically and online. Its also works via web portal and mobile application for residents. It provides 10 MB free personal storage space for citizens whose Aadhaar is synchronized and e-documents can be shared with the requester.
Digilocker is very friendly to use. You just have to signing the Digilocker Android application and verify the phone number with the OTP. After that you could give Aadhaar details before uploading scanned documents and issued documents which are issued by the government agencies.
The Digilocker app on PlayStore is however have more Negative reviews due to the instability in the application which is release as beta. We ca hope they will get the application working correctly soon.
Maharashtra is the top state as far as the number of Digilocker users are concerned. But Lakshadweep has the least number of users. It is expected that the number of users will be increased upto 730 million by 2020.
