Following BSNL, state-run Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL) is looking forward to launch three affordable tablets today, as per a newspaper report. One of the MTNL tablets will be priced at around Rs 3,999 and will compete with BSNL’s Penta IS701 R, which is priced at par with BSNL Penta and Aakash tablet.
BSNL launched its tablets in partnership with Noida-based Pantel technology staring at Rs 3,999 and going up to Rs 14,699. Similarly, MTNL is launching its tablets in partnership with Teracom, a telecom equipment manufacturer. MTNL will bundle 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity data plans along with the tablet. Other two tablets will be priced at Rs 6,999 and Rs 10,999.
The low-end model is based on a 1.2 GHz processor, 4GB memory, runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and supports only WiFi, while BSNL’s low-end model comes with 1GHz processor, 2GB memory, 256 MB RAM running Android 2.3 Gingerbread and features a resistive touch screen.
