Lenovo, the renowned PC maker has unveiled five Android smartphones in India, thereby making its foray into elusive smartphone market in the country. The smartphones, named Lenovo K860, S880, S560, P700i and A60+, are priced between Rs 6,499 and Rs 28,499. According to the company, the first four devices are based on Android 4.0 aka Ice Cream Sandwich operating system, while the Lenovo A60+ runs Android 2.3 aka Gingerbread.
Talking about the devices, Lenovo K860, is the most expensive smartphone among the five handsets. It is powered by a 1.4 GHz quad-core processor and sports a 12.7-cm (5-inch) IPS display with 720×1280 pixels resolution. The company claims the screen of K860 has 178 degree viewing angles. Other features include, an 8 MP rear camera, 8 GB onboard storage, 1 GB RAM, 2,250 mAh battery, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, micro USB etc. The K860 will be available in India for Rs 28,499.
Next up, is the Lenovo S880, which too has a 12.7-cm (5-inch) display. The S880 is a slim phone and comes in dual-SIM capability. It comes with a 512 MB RAM, 0.3 MP front camera and 5 MP rear camera, GPS, MicroSD card slot and a 2,250 mAh battery. The Lenovo S880 is priced at Rs 18,999.
Like the first two models, Lenovo S560 also has a 12.7-cm (5-inch) IPS screen and is powered by a dual core processor. It comes with a 5 MP camera. The S560 is priced at Rs 14,999. The Lenovo P7000i too has dual SIM capability and has a 10.6-cm (4-inch) screen. It costs Rs 12,499.
The cheapest of the lot is the Lenovo A60+ which comes with a 8.8-cm (3.5-inch) screen and is powered by a 1 GHz processor, 256 MB RAM. The device runs Android 2.3 aka Gingerbread, backed up by a 1,500 mAh battery. This smartphone will be available for Rs 6,499 in the country.
After long rounds of speculation and rumour, Lenovo has finally entered the smartphone segment in India. A lot has been said about how Lenovo will be looking to establish itself in the competitive Indian smartphone market, but looking at the way, they have unleashed plethora of device ranging from low-cost to high-end, one gets the feeling that the company has the know-how to sustain itself in the country. Lenovo is already one of the top phone makers worldwide and with this foray, the company would like to stamp its presence in India as well.
