Mukesh Ambani, chairman of Reliance on Tuesday said that Happy New Year offer of Jio will be ending on 31 March, and starting 1 April, Jio will start its tariff plans where voice calls and roaming will be free. There will be no black out days or any hidden charges and as Jio has crossed a customer base of 100 million, Ambani mentioned that this milestone belongs to every member of the Jio community for creating sustainable employment and they are humbled by the enormous trust placed on them by the customers. After March 31, Jio will be a paid service, says Mukesh Ambani. But Jio will offer the most affordable rates and after March 31, Jio will match each and every plan that other operators are offering or will offer at the same rate but with 20 per cent more data.
Users can continue to have free-calling facility with an entry monthly post-paid tariff of Rs 149 (that gives 300 MB data), Rs 499 (4 GB data), and this plan can go up to Rs 4,999 that offers 75 GB of 4G data. Jio also announced a new offer called ‘Prime’ that promises higher benefits and will cost Rs 99 annually. Jio Prime membership highlight is that the the prime enrolment will be open from 1 March to 31 March which can be done using the MyJio app, Jio website or at any Reliance Digital retail store and the unlimited benefits during the free offer period for the last six months will be available for another 12 months till 31 March 2018 at an introductory price of Rs303 per month. Jio media services as well as a set of offers will be provided exclusively for the prime members.
Ambani said that before Jio, India was 150th in the world in broadband penetration. But last month alone, Jio users consumed data of more than 100 crore GB. He also mentioned that today India is the number one country in the world for mobile data usage. Jio users consume as much mobile data as much as the US and nearly 50% of all of China. A significant portion of this data is consumed by video, making Jio one of the largest video networks globally. They are making the network better, faster, stronger with each passing day and by the end of 2017, Jio network will be present across India—cover 99% of our country’s population.
