Here Comes A 100-Megapixel Camera!

A Chinese institute has developed a 100-megapixel camera that can yield high-resolution imaging, thus, can prove useful in fields such as aerial mapping, disaster monitoring and intelligent transportation systems.

The device was developed by the Institute of Optics and Electronics under the Chinese Academy of Sciences and is said to be China’s highest pixel camera. The camera can produce images with 10,240 x 10,240 pixels as per a statement. The camera is light-weighted with its widest part measuring only 19.3 cm informs state-run Xinhua. Not only this, the camera can be used at varied temperatures ranging from minus 20 degrees centigrade to 55 degrees centigrade.

Due to camera’s high sensitivity and high dynamic range (HDR) features, it can be widely used for high-resolution imaging in the fields of aerial mapping, disaster supervision, city planning, and intelligent transportation systems, the statement said.

The 100 megapixel camera is capable of producing images with 10,240 x 10,240 pixels.

The device is designed for successful execution of intelligent transportation system and offer services pertaining to different modes of transport and traffic management. This will enable the users to make informed and safe choice, be more coordinated, and use transport networks smartly.

The statement adds that the camera has advanced optical systems, camera control systems and high-capacity data recording systems, and has been successfully tested as a part of a countrywide aerial remote-sensing system.

It is worth mentioning here that the institute has developed an 81-megapixel camera during the 10th Five Year Plan period (2001-2005). Their recent accomplishment took them only two years to develop.
