First image of Xperia Z Ultra teased – super slim phablet

What you see below is the first image of the upcoming 6.4-inch Xperia Z Ultra. It refers to a Sony Mobile press invite in France taking place on Thursday 4 July at 09.30. The invite is translated to the following: “Sony Mobile reserves a big surprise for you“. Note the ‘big’ in that sentence.

The graphic then shows the following hand written text: “Do not forget to mark your calendars!” It shows the text being written by a stylus, giving more credence to rumours that the 6.4-inch device will support an input device such as a stylus or pencil.

In terms of the image itself, it seems to show that the Xperia Z Ultra will be very thin. We recently leaked some of the specs and believe that the handset will be 6.5mm thin. Only the side profile of the device is shown and appears to show that the headphone jack will be on the side of the phone. The signature power button, as seen in the rest of the 2013 Xperia line-up, is intact and below this sits a volume rocker. Towards the bottom sits a dedicated camera button and at the very bottom sits a hole that most likely supports a lanyard.

A quick reminder of the rumoured specs. The Xperia Z Ultra is believed to have a 6.44-inch 1080p “Triluminos with X-Reality for Mobile” display. It will be powered by the Snapdragon 800 chipset (2.2GHz quad-core processor and Adreno 330 graphics), 2GB RAM, 16GB internal storage and microSD memory card slot. It will also feature an 8MP camera and 2.2MP front-facing camera. The handset will launch with Android 4.2 with dimensions of 179.2 x 92 x 6.5mm and will weigh 212g.

What we’re not sure about is that the Xperia Z Ultra is rumoured to be water resistant, yet the headphone jack is open with no port covering it. Hopefully all will become clear in the next few weeks regarding the exact specs, but either way we are looking at a very desirable device.
