Datawind, the maker of Aakash tablet is reportedly working on a big-display tablet what will be launched in the entry-level price segment (i.e. Rs 5,000). The tablet is expected to be introduced next month and it might even offer voice-calling capability as well.
“We would be launching 25-cm (10-inch) tablets in the budget segment for customers who will be able to own these devices for the same price they now pay for a 17.7-cm (7-inch) device,” Suneet Singh Tuli, CEO, Datawind was quoted as saying in the report.
“These devices would be introduced in the Rs 5,000 to Rs 5,500 category and some of these tablets will also feature voice-calling capabilities. We plan to make an announcement on these products after six weeks from now,” Tuli added.
The company is already said to be working on a 12.7-cm (5-inch) phablet that will support 4G (LTE) connectivity. Similar to the tablet, this phablet will also be priced around Rs 5,000 and is expected to be launched later this year when the country’s 4G network set-up strengthens or reaches wide mass consumers.
The company has already moved into the application arena and this can be a major source of revenue generation for the brand via app developers who will working to strengthen the app ecosystem of tablets like Ubislate 7C+.
