CES 2013: Archos GamePad Comes With Jelly Bean OS

Those who have been fortunate enough to attend the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2013, for them Archos has surely been the surprise package, as the French consumer electronics maker has gone out to launch Archos Android-based TV, Titanium Android tablets and now, Archos has introduced its latest gadget, GamePad.

This device adds hardware controls, including traditional gaming buttons and joysticks, to a 17.7-cm (7-inch) Android tablet. In terms of specs, the GamePad offer 1024 x 600 IPS resolution, which is powered by a 1.6 GHz dual-core processor and 1 GB RAM. Apart from that, the device has in-built quad-core graphics, and Archos has recently added Android 4.1 aka Jelly Bean to offer lag-free game time.

This is what Techradar experts have to say about the GamePad, “Aesthetically, the GamePad more closely resembles some outdated piece of retro computer hardware than a sleek, modern Android tablet, and the headphone jack sits awkwardly on the top of the device. These flaws are symptoms of the Archos GamePad’s general lack of cohesion, which unfortunately holds the tablet back from being as great as it could be.”

Archos has said that the GamePad will be available in US in the coming weeks and is expected to be priced around $170.
