India’s telecom company, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) has introduced new set of messaging packs for users in India. The company has revised its SMS tariff and introduced five new SMS packs for its 2G and 3G GSM subscribers in the country. The new plans of Rs 12, 24, 31 and 52 replace BSNL’s existing SMS pack of Rs 13, 20,31 and 52 .

The new plans have been designed with revised validity and increased message tariff as compared to the existing packs. The company says that it was forced to revise the rates because of the changes in the SMS termination charges between all service providers. All new SMS packs will be applicable pan-India and will offer BSNL to BSNL local and national SMS at 5 paisa per SMS and SMS on any other local and national networks at 10 paisa.

While SMS packs of Rs 83 will offer SMS on any other local and national networks at 7 paisa, BSNL to BSNL SMS will remain the same as 5 paisa per SMS.

Users must note that these SMS tariffs are applicable for first 100 SMSes per day, after which subscribers will be charged at 50 paisa per SMS or base tariff whichever is higher as per the latest TRAI regulation. All the SMS plans are applicable for both 2G and 3G prepaid users of BSNL.
