In order to make the 4G platform more appealing to customers, Bharti Airtel has decided to drop down charges by 31 per cent. This flagship move is certainly going to give a tough time to the competitors who would have planned such an improvement in the future. However, skeptics are still unsure if allowing 4G data speed at 3G charges would actually impress more consumers.
Recently the biggest telecom company of the nation had already slashed the 2G charges by more than 90 per cent to increase the data usage and thereby the revenue stream. The Sunil Mittal founded Telco too had been adding less customer base compared to the statistics of Idea Cellular and Vodafone. One of the topmost executives from Bharti Airtel said that the move to offer 4G internet at 3G charges will increase the customer base and also place a stiff competition for other players in the industry. We already know Reliance is planning a similar move later this year, but Airtel didn’t mention anything about the Mukesh Ambani led company.
The slash in prices is meant to be done in select cities like Kolkata, Pune, Chandigarh and Bangalore in the first phase and the plan will be available for Rs 450 whereas the previous rate was Rs 650. These are also the cities where the company runs its fourth generation internet speed plans. However, entry level customers going for the revised priced won’t be able to access the 4G entertainment library services. This is something reserved for the high end users (Rs 999 and above recharges on 4G).
