Earlier we reported that telecom minister, Kapil Sibal said that the upgraded version of the Aakash tablet PC is expected to arrive on 11 November. “Hopefully on November 11, you will see the President talking to 20,000 students across the nation (who) will have their hands on Aakash,” said Sibal.
Aakash II tablet will come with a new e-learning platform named A-VIEW, which is an acronym of ‘Amrita Virtual Interactive E-Learning World’. It is expected that Pranab Mukherjee, the new president of India will introduce the new Aakash tablet in New Delhi on 11 November 2012.
The new version will be based a dual-core Cortex A9 processor clocked at 1 GHz along with 1 GB of RAM instead of a 366 MHz processor, based on an older ARM architecture in the original Aakash tablet, which featured a 17.8-cm resistive touch screen which hardly responded to touch. The new Aakash tablet will run Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and we expect it to be smooth as the hardware backing seems good enough for Android 4.0. “A-VIEW 3.0 will help the needy students get the guidance of experienced qualified teachers in the higher education sector in India,” said Kamal Bijlani, director, Amrita E-Learning Research Lab.
